DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know the hydrogen bonds in the hair cortex are broken by hair-straightening irons, which causes the hair to become straight? This effect is generally temporary and often only lasts until the next shampoo. In 1958, the first modern-day flatiron mill in the US opened in Los Angeles, followed by a second facility in Chicago. The 1960s saw a rise in the use of flat irons, notably among women and African Americans who longed to straighten their hair. Early in the 1970s, a Japanese manufacturer by the name of BaByliss developed the first flat iron that utilized ceramic plates.
